Cottondale FFA Stands Out at Florida FFA Convention





The Cottondale FFA was front and center on stage numerous times at the 93rd Florida FFA State Convention and Expo. The Convention was held in Orlando at the Caribe Royale Resort June 14th through the 18th. During the week, students competed in competitions, listened to inspiring speeches from this year’s state officers, and listened to keynote speakers. Both Cottondale High and Middle FFA Chapters were represented well by the students who attended. The Cottondale chapters were recognized for:

· The Middle School Parliamentary Procedure team made it to finals and placed 3rd. The team consisted of Robby Griffin, Emilia Boggs, Mary O’Neal, Millie Chambliss, Caden Ammons, Joseph Baxley. The alternates for the team are Kassie Land and Kaitlyn Henderson.

· Josh Scurlock, Raven Benefield, and Kylie Harvey were awarded their state FFA Degrees, the highest degree bestowed at the state level.

· The Agricultural Communications team was recognized as the state champion team and consisted of Rayleigh Carter, Kylie Harvey, Angelina Trino, and Matthew Baker. Matthew Baker was the high individual for this year's competition. They will compete at the national contest this fall.

· The Agricultural Sales and Services team was recognized for their 1st place finish in this year's competition. Team members are Josh Scurlock, Addison Griffin, Taylor Dumas, and Hanna McClain. Josh Scurlock was the high individual for the competition. They will also compete at the national contest this fall.

· Jeremy Scurlock was recognized as a finalist in the Florida FFA Alumni Essay Contest about “How Has FFA Shaped My Future.”

· Angelina Trino and Kylie Harvey were recognized for their service as courtesy corps members during convention.

· Josh Scurlock, Raven Benefield, Rylan Shouppe, Jeremy Scurlock, and Robby Griffin were recognized as state finalists in their proficiency award categories, based off of their Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) Programs. Josh Scurlock was also named the state champion of the Agricultural Processing Proficiency award and will move on to the national level.

· Advisor Stan Scurlock was recognized for his work on the board of directors of the Florida FFA Association and Florida Association of Agricultural Educators. Scurlock was also re-elected for another 3-year term on the Florida FFA Association Board of Directors.

· Josh Scurlock was recognized as a finalist for the Ryan Rimmer Outstanding District Officer Award for his service as the District II Secretary for the past year.

· The Cottondale Middle FFA was awarded the Belinda G. Chason Legacy Award for its achievements in FFA and agricultural education.

· Both the middle and high school chapters were recognized as Florida FFA Premier Chapters.

· The Chapters were also recognized as Florida’s Finest Chapters.
