Cottondale FFA Front & Center at the 90th Florida FFA State Convention
The Cottondale FFA was front and center on stage several times at the Florida FFA State Convention and Expo. The Convention was held in Orlando at the Caribe Royale Resort June 11th through the 15th. At the State Convention, FFA members came together to celebrate the accomplishments of their chapters, as well as strengthen their leadership skills and ability to work and serve as a team. Members, Advisors, and guests sat through motivational sessions and award presentations to see chapters statewide reach their goals. Some of the weeks highlights were:
Both Cottondale Middle School and High School chapters competed and excelled at the state level during this week. The Middle and High School Parliamentary Procedure teams took on their competitions. The Middle School team consisted of: Josh Scurlock, Ashley Hicks, Hailey Chambliss, Jeremy Scurlock, Rebecca Barnes, and Luke Ohler. The High School team placed 2nd in the state and consisted of: Caleb Reed,Taylor Dumas, Jordan Dominguez, Blayton See, Joey Jackson, and CJ Young.
The High School Agricultural Issues team also competed team members included: Jordan Dominguez, Summer Gurganus, Kayley Turner, Tyler Sallas, Angel Trino and Blayton See.
Josh Scurlock was awarded the state championship in the Forest Management and Products and proficiency award, this application will be be sent to the National FFA for further judging at the national level.
Carl Young, Joey Jackson and Austin O'Neal were awarded their state FFA degrees.
Carl Young was also recognized as the high individual in the state in Agricultural Sales and Services CDE.
Josh Scurlock was also recognized for his 2nd place finish in the in the state Ornamental horticulture CDE in the production category.
Cottondale's Advisor, Mr. Stan Scurlock was recognized as a retiring board member for the Florida FFA board of Directors and was reelected to another 3 year term as the Area 1 representative.
Cottondale's very own Blayton See was elected the 2018-2019 District II President.
