Wednesday, Oct. 9 and Thursday, Oct. 10, the Florida FFA Association hosted the State Forestry Contest in Perry, Florida.

The purpose of this career development event is to stimulate student interest in forestry, to promote forestry instruction in the agricultural education curriculum, and to provide recognition for those who have demonstrated skill and competency as a result of forestry instruction. Team members were required to complete a written exam, cruise timber, interpret a map, identify tree type and pests, and name forest tools. The forestry team consisted of Layne Mitchell, Kaylee Alexander, Jeremy Scurlock, and Josh Scurlock.

The Cottondale Middle School FFA Forestry Team represented District II at this event and placed 6th overall, and Josh Scurlock placed 11th overall individual! Congratulations to team members, and thank you to the Florida Forest Service for their assistance in this event.
