Cottondale FFA Excels at Florida FFA State Convention


The Cottondale FFA Chapter had a great week at the FFA State Convention in Orlando, June 12th -16th. Fifteen members of the high school and middle school chapters participated in delegate workshops, sessions and career development events during this week. The chapter and individual members were also recognized on several occasions. Some of the week’s highlights were: • Both Cottondale High and Middle were recognized as Premier Chapters in the State of Florida. • Cottondale High Chapter was one of Florida’s Finest Chapters and move on to Nationals. • The Cottondale Middle School chapter was recognized for its 100% membership. • Caleb Reed was a top Five Finalist for the Ryan Rimmer Outstanding District Officer Award. • Josh Scurlock and Jay Crisp were recognized for their third place in the state’s Middle School Production Horticulture CDE. • The Agricultural Sales and Service Team were recognized for their second place finish in the state finals. • The Agricultural Communications Team was recognized as the Florida FFA State Champions. Caleb Reed also accepted his high individual trophy for this event. In October the communications team will compete at the National FFA in Indianapolis, Indiana for the national agricultural communications title. • The Issues team competed in the state finals of the Agricultural Issues Career Development Event at the convention. The team placed second in the state with their presentation on “Food Waste.” Team Members were: Kayley Turner, Sommer Gurganus, Caleb Reed, Tyler Sallas, Joanie Fox and Jordan Dominquez. • The Cottondale FFA High School Parliamentary Procedure Team advanced to the state’s final round of the parliamentary procedure event. Team members were: Caleb Reed, Blayton See, Laramie Pooser, Joey Jackson, Carl Young and Case Birge. • Also the Cottondale FFA had three recipients walk across state to receive their state degree. The members were Case Birge, Caleb Reed and Laramie Pooser. In addition, the Chapter had two members that will cross the stage at the National Convention to receive their American degree and the members are Mason Taylor and Colby Hargrove.

This was a great week for the Cottondale FFA. The members had a great time, got to meet other members from across the state and sharpened their leadership skills. Thanks to all the chapter supporters who helped make this trip a success.
